Delmarva Central Railroad Announces $15.86 Million FARM Investment
The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) selected Delmarva Central Railroad Company for an award of up to $10,152,590 through the Fiscal Year 2025–2026 Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) program. Combined with DCR’s $5,710,832 private cash match, the award supports a total FARM Project investment of $15,863,422. The project will improve approximately 9.5 miles of track between Harrington and Bridgeville, Delaware.
The construction project will install continuous welded rail, place ballast and surface the track. Once complete, the improvements are expected to support railcars weighing up to 286,000 pounds, remove slow orders and reduce derailment risk. The project is intended to strengthen the reliability and capacity of freight service for agricultural and other shippers on the Delmarva Peninsula.
FRA selected the FARM project for construction funding and identified it as qualifying for the statutory rural-area set-aside. The award is part of FRA’s FY 2025–2026 CRISI selections, which fund projects to improve rail safety, efficiency and reliability.
Carload Express thanks U.S. Senators Chris Coons and Lisa Blunt Rochester and U.S. Representative Sarah McBride of Delaware, and U.S. Senators Angela Alsobrooks and Chris Van Hollen and U.S. Representative Andy Harris of Maryland, for directly supporting the FARM application. Carload Express is also grateful to the more than 30 businesses, shippers, agricultural partners, local governments, chambers of commerce, economic development organizations and communities across the Delmarva Peninsula and United States whose support helped advance the project.
